History[]

Biography[]

Wilson Matua was a resident of the Port of Harambe in East-Africa during the late 20th/early 21st century. He was the warden of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve where he promoted environmentalism. Matua was also a skilled aviator who patrolled the reserve within an airplane that had the ID 5H-NAA. Wilson was also involved with the Kilimanjaro Safaris company which ran jeep safaris through the reserve and the Wilderness Explorers who promoted environmentalism and education in youths within Harambe.

Development history[]

Wilson Matua was a major character in the original narrative of Kilimanjaro Safaris. In this version of the attraction, he communicated with guests from his plane to assist in tracking down poachers who had stolen the elephant Little Red. This was removed due to the dark elements within the attraction. Wilson's character has been steadily removed over the years.

Jungle Cruise appearances[]

Kilimanjaro Safaris[]

Wilson used to appear in the pre-show video and have his voice play within the attraction. The only remnant of Matua in the attraction is his home near the exit.

Skipper Canteen[]

In the library of the Skipper Canteen is a book titled, "The Harambe Chronicles" by Wilson. Due to the 1938 setting of the skipper canteen, it is impossible for the book to be written by the in-universe Wilson Matua.

Other appearances[]

Wilderness Explorers[]

The African Culture Badge mission has Wilderness Explorers go outside of, "The warden"'s home which is filled with goats.

Trivia[]

  • Wilson's name is likely an allusion to famous environmental author Edward Osborne Wilson (1929-present day). It is possible that the book by, "Wilson" in the Skipper Canteen is intended to reference Edward Osborne Wilson's work.
