Vodun or Voodoo is a real-life religion with multiple divisions and variants. Voodoo is derived from African religions with many of its variants having been developed in the Americas as a result of Africans enslaved by the Europeans. Due to involving physical elements and being practiced by black peoples, it has often been subject to racist fiction and propaganda which vilifies it and often fabricates elements to portray it as a form of dark-magic or evil witchcraft.
