The vine zombies are a conjectural name for antagonists from the Jungle River Cruise: Curse of the Emerald Trinity overlay of Jungle River Cruise.
Description[]
These, "Vine zombies" were seemingly corpses animated by jungle flora through the magic of the Emerald Trinity diamonds. They served the purpose of making sure no-one could ever steal the emeralds from the jungle.
History[]
Background[]
The Emerald Trinity are three jewels which can bestow immortality on those who took them from their jungle. The tribe was maintained by a, "Voodoo tribe" several centuries before the 1930s. The three jewels were hidden away in the Temple of Immortality and lost to time.
In the early 1930s, the jewels were sought after by criminal archaeologist Professor Garrett Reed who wished to obtain immortality. Reed located the temple and stole one of the jewels on the December 8 of 1932 before taking it away to his base-camp. The night of December 8th, a skipper for the Jungle Navigation Companyfollowed Reed's trail to the temple while performing a, "Jungle Cruise" tour and secretly stole the remaining emerald.
The skipper later happened upon Reed's camp where they witnesses his death at the hands of jungle vines. The jungle subsequently turned on the skipper too, with them narrowly escaping murderous plants, the resurrected tribe, and zombies emerging from the water. Eventually the boat entered the Canyon of the Gods where the canyon's deities reclaimed the stolen jewel. The gods attempted to kill those aboard the boat only for the boat to escape to the JNC boathouse
Development history[]
The vine zombies appeared in the 2015 Jungle River Cruise: Curse of the Emerald Trinity overlay of the Jungle River Cruise in Hong Kong Disneyland. They replaced the hippos which appeared in the hippo pool scene of the Jungle Cruise.

Trivia[]
- In Haitian voodoo practice, les zombis are not necessarily undead but rather humans who have been injected with the tetrodotoxin derived coup poudre formula and which results in the injected to feign death before returning as a mindless slave to the bokor whom created them. It is unknown if this origin is reflected with their relationship to the voodoo tribe.
- Zombies have also been referenced in Jungle Cruise attractions in the Trader Sam's bars via the zombie head drinks.
- In the Jungle Cruise film, the character of Gonzalo is a cursed conquistador who appears as a corpse with vines growing from his body.
- Frank Wolff's Mirrorverse counterpart in the game Disney Mirrorverse has a plant arm resembling that of the vine zombies.
