The Land That Time Forgot is a 1924 Lost World subgenera novel which was the first of author Edgar Rice Burroughs' Caspak trilogy. The story was derivative of Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World, being a story revolving around the lost isle of Caprona which has a unique ecosystem of dated depictions of dinosaurs.
Summary[]
The story was set in 1916, in the midst of World War I where after a battle with germans, the crew of the U-boat U-33 is set adrift near Antarctica. The boat finds itself on the island of Caprona, an isle with exotic levels of hear due to being formed around a meteor crater. On the island, British and German forces team-up in order to survive a large number of primeval creatures, including a race of neanderthals.
Jungle Cruise connections[]
Jungle Cruise[]
Walt Disney World's Jungle Cruise contained a reference to the Land that Time Forgot. On the radio, Albert Awol promoted river excursions to, "The Land that time forgot...and so will you".
Trivia[]
- DisneyQuest's Virtual Jungle Cruise involved guests being brought back to a jungle in the time of dinosaurs.
- Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes books are also referenced in the Jungle Cruise.
- The Skipper Canteen and Tropical Hideaway both contain references to one Jason Chandler, a character originating from Disneyland's unbuilt Discovery Bay. This area of Disneyland would have featured a lost world inspired riverboat attraction titled Lost River Rapids which would have repurposed audio-animatronics from the Disneyland Railroad's Primeval World.
- In Epcot's, "Disney Traders" shop there is a travel banner for, "The Savage Lands", a fictional Antarctic region from Marvel Comics which is home to various dinosaurs and which is influenced by the Land Which Time Forgot.
