Skipper Winston is a character from the Jungle Cruise.

History[]

Background[]

Skipper Winston was one of the skippers working for the Jungle Navigation Company in the early-half of the 20th century (relatively earlier in the company's history). Winston was affiliated with the company's, "First Joke" which wen't, "Here is the giraffe, the only animal in the jungle that looks DOWN upon the others!". This joke resulted in skipper humour becoming the norm, and said joke was later framed in the company's Amazon River Base. Skipper Winston's later history is unknown.

Development history[]

Skipper Winston's first reference was added to the Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise during the 2021 refurbishment. His name is a tribute to Winston Hibler (1910-1976), a real-world screenwriter and director for Disney who co-writ and narrated several of the True-Life Adventures films which influenced Adventureland and the Jungle Cruise.

Trivia[]

  • Winston Hibler is also paid tribute through the character of Dr. Winston Hibler.
  • Given JNC skipper Frank Wolff's affinity for bad jokes, it is possible that Skipper Winston made his first joke before the events of the Jungle Cruise film, set in 1916.
