Skipper Sully is a character from the Jungle Cruise.

History[]

Biography[]

Skipper Sully was a riverboat skipper who worked in the Amazon rainforest during the 1930s. By around 1936, he ran an establishment called Boats & Baits where he rented canoes and sold bait. By 1938, he turned this shop into Boats & Baits AND Bites! where he sold quick-service fish cuisine.

Development history[]

The shop replaced the Pygmy camp scene of Walt Disney World's Jungle Cruise. Skipper Sully is a tribute to Disney employee William "Sully" Sullivan, author of From Jungle Cruise Skipper to Disney Legend.

Trivia[]

  • Bill Sullivan's window on Main Street, U.S.A. reads, "SULLY’S SAFARIS & GUIDE SERVICE" which identifies one Bill Sullivan as, "Chief Guide" around the turn-of-the-century.[1]
  • Both Skipper Sully and Frank Wolff are Jungle Cruise characters who fish for piranhas to cook.
  • An old map in the queue indicates that Frank Wolff visited Boats & Baits after his curse was removed in 1916. It is unknown if Sully ran the shop at that point in time.
