"Skipper Joe" was a skipper working for the Jungle Navigation Company during the mid 1930s. In 1935, they won the, "K.P. Rafferty All-Skipper Pun Championship", an event commemorated by a plaque in the company's Amazon River Base.

- Joe's name may be a tribute to imagineer Joe Rohde. It could also be a tribute to concept-artist Joe Warren.
