Siobhan "Puffin" Murphy is a character from the Jungle Cruise.
History[]
Biography[]
Background[]
Siobhan Murphy was an Irish woman from the small island of Dingle, Ireland in the early half of the 20th century. Siobhan had a keen interest in ornithology, earning her the nickname of, "Puffin". Siobhan was also the paternal twice-removed cousin of Alberta Falls, the president of the Jungle Navigation Company with Siobhan's grand-uncle Dr. Albert Falls having founded the company.[1]
The Jungle Cruise[]
In 1938, Alberta sent Siobhan a Christmas card which invited her to join a V.I.P. Jungle Cruise tour aboard the tramp-steamer Kwango Kate along the supernatural Rivers of Adventure which connected exotic regions globally. Puffin intended on this tour to serve as an exotic birdwatching expedition while also wishing to study Alberta's pet kakapo, Kamaka. The Kwango Kate seemingly departed from the JNC's base in the Amazon rainforest and was captained by, "New guy" skipper Felix Pechman XIII. The tour also included the likes of Rosa Soto Dominguez, Dr. Leonard Moss and Dr. Kon Chunosuke.
The Kate made an apparent stop at a company boathouse in the Lost Delta of India where Murphy was awaiting cargo from the Jungle Air Mail Service. When Pechman's piloting was interrupted by Siobhan's interest in an exotic bird, he wrecked the Kwango Kate along the Nile river of Northern Africa (likely in Egypt or Sudan). The passengers and captain of the boat were subsequently stranded in the African veldt of North Africa along the Nile river. While stranded, the party was chased up a tree by an angered rhinoceros. While up this tree, Puffin found herself preoccupied by an exotic bird which sat atop the tree. The group was still stranded in December when they were passed by at-least two, "Jingle Cruise" tour boats.
Later life[]
Around 1978, Siobhan spent time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Puffin later travelled to Galeão, Brazil on the June 2nd of 1978.
Development history[]
Siobhan was created for a 2021 refurbishment of the Jungle Cruise. This refurbishment aimed to replace culturally insensitive elements from the Jungle Cruise with the marooned passengers of the Kwango Kate replacing the trapped safari. Siobhan in particular replaced the lost safari's leader.
Appearances[]
Club 33[]
Murphy is referenced during the Tiki Takeover event with the description for the Kingfisher, a drink referencing her interest in ornithology. Next to the drink description is a ticket from Plane Crazy Airlines which is for Murphy's 1978 trip from Malaysia to Brazil.[2]
Jungle Cruise[]
Siobhan Murphy appears in the African veldt, at the top of the tree. Unlike the others who are in shock and fear from their situation, Siobhan appears admiring a bird atop the tree. Cargo belonging to her floats in the waters of the Hippo Territory.[3] Her belongings appear in the queue, transported by the Jungle Air Mail Service. In the Magic Kingdom, an obscured post-card from her is hung in Alberta'a amazon boathouse office. Puffin's letter reads:
"Alberta,
Thank you for your lovely Christmas card. I hope to one day take you up on your offer of a Jungle Cruise. I especially hope to see that bird you mentioned! He seems quite {illegible}.
Keep in touch!
Cousin Puffin".[4]
Her silhouette also appears on the 2021 updated poster for the attraction.[5]
