Scar is the main-antagonist of The Lion King (1994) and loosely connected to certain Jungle Cruise franchise attractions, namely in being antagonist of the Jungle Cruise themed missions of Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. He is loosely based on King Claudius from William Shakespeare's 1603 play, The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.

History[]

Background[]

Origins[]

Taka was the younger lion-cub son to King Ahadi and Queen Uru of the Pride Lands. Askari's older-brother was the prince Mufasa, who due to being older was set to inherit the throne. When he was young, Scar attempted to make Mufasa look bad by coercing him into fighting a  Cape buffalo named Boma. However, the plan went awry and Boma charged at Taka, leaving him with a scar over his left-eye. After this, Taka renamed himself as, "Scar".

Usurping the Throne[]

Scar plotted to take over the throne and allied himself with various hyenas to do so, namely Shenzi, Banzai and Ed. To succeed in this plan, Scar not only needed to dispose of Mufasa but also of Mufasa's young son, Simba. After a failed plan to manipulate Simba into running-off into the hyena's elephant-graveyard territory, Scar and the hyenas made a new plot.

Scar brought Simba into a ravine for a, "Surprise" before having the hyenas created a wildebeest stampede which Simba got caught in the middle of. Scar used this to lure Mufasa to the ravine where he dropped him off of a cliff to be killed by the stampede, before convincing Simba that Mufasa's death was his own fault. Simba ran away at Scar's suggestion, before Scar had his hyenas hunt down and attempt to murder Simba, though the cub narrowly escaped.

King Scar[]

The hyenas did not tell Scar that they failed to kill Simba and at Mufasa's funeral, Scar rose to power as new king of the Pride Lands. However, Scar's legions over-hunted over the years and upset the food-chain, resulting in the Pride Lands becoming barren. Scar became a tyrant who refused to move on past the Pride Lands, forcing his lionesses to hunt further and further out of the Pride Lands for food.

Eventually, an adult Simba returned to Pride Rock to take his place as king and restore honour. Scar then threatened Simba with his legion of hyenas and attempted to discredit him by revealing that it was Simba responsible for Mufasa's death. Scar and Simba then fought where Scar gained the upperhand and whispered to Simba that it was he who killed Mufasa. Simba then overcame Scar and forced Scar to repeat himself to the pride.

Defeated, Scar attempted to blame everything on the hyenas pressuring his actions. Simba then banished Scar, but turned his back causing Scar to attack him. Simba tossed Scar off of his back and off of Pride Rock where he was surrounded by the angered hyenas who turned on him, and ripped him apart.

Resurrection[]

Scar was brought back from the dead by the Lord of the Underworld, Hades. Hades did this so that Scar could assist him in acquiring a piece for the Crystal of the Magic Kingdom which would allow for Hades to conquer the many realms of the Magic Kingdom, in return for Hades making Scar an immortal. Scar managed to get the hyenas under his control again, endow them with dark powers from Hades, and planned to create a massive elephant stampede which would destroy the Realm of Adventureland.

Scar's hyenas were fought by sorcerers of Merlin who protected the Crystal and had teamed up with Rafiki while posing as a Jungle Cruise skipper. These sorcerers caused the hyenas to leave Scar. After this, Scar had Hades transform him into an undead spirit similar to Mufasa, turning him into a massive red cloud which the sorcerers used magic to blow away.
