Biography[]
Sam was a black singer and pianist working for Rick Blaine at Rick's Cafe Americaine in Casablanca, Morocco in the early 1940s. In the December of 1941, Sam conspired with Sam's past lover Ilsa who was visiting the café with her husband. Sam played the song, "As Time Goes By" which Rick had forbidden from being played due to him affiliating it with his heartbreaking relationship with Ilsa. Due to the nostalgia of this song, Rick and Ilsa continued a romantic relationship and ally-ship between them.

Jungle Cruise[]
In Disneyland's Jungle Cruise, Nigel Greenwater plays the song, "As Time Goes By". This is a song popularized by Casablanca which holds significant importance to Rick in the film. In the film, this song is sung by Sam and represents the romance which Rick had with Ilsa Lund. Additionally, Jungle Cruise imagineer Harper Goff worked as a set-designer on Casablanca.
