Professor Harper Goff is an Adventureland character originating from the Adventureland Bazaar who is affiliated with the Jungle Cruise. He is a Jungle Cruise mythos counterpart to imagineer Harper Goff (1911-1993).

History[]

Biography[]

Professor Harper Goff was a man who was employed by the colonial Jungle Navigation Company since at-least the 1920s. On the June 10th of 1924, he checked over blueprints for a JNC boat called the Congo Queen which were subsequently approved by one, "W.E.D.". In 1932, Goff checked over blueprints for a boat called the Amazon Belle.

By the 1930s, Goff held a base at the company's dock 54 and in the middle-eastern Adventureland Bazaar in the Wilds of Adventureland, a conjoined locale of exotic regions across the globe where the JNC was active. From these bases, Goff would give out tattoos and banjo lessons. By 1938, Goff wrote the books Banjos and Baboons and Tramp steamers in Africa. At some point, Goff produced a Disney Pictures film titled The Jungle Cruise shot with assistance from the JNC in Zanzibar and Calcutta.

Harper Goff born Ralph Harper Goff was an artist, banjo player, actor and Disney imagineer. He largely as a set-designer on the film Casablanca and an art designer on both Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Goff was one of the first imagineers who Walt Disney appointed to developing Disneyland's Jungle Cruise, inspired by Disney's True-Life Adventures nature films. Goff took considerable influence from the adventure film The African Queen and designed much of the original incarnation of the Jungle Cruise.

Advertisements for banjo lessons from Goff at, "Dock 54" were posted in both The Bird Call magazine and The Daily Gnus newspaper.[1] Early testing for the game also identified H. Goff as chairman of the Jungle Telegram Co..

Jungle Cruise[]

In the boathouse of the Lost Delta are blueprints for JNC boats such as the Congo Queen, checked by H. Goff.[2]

Magic of Disney Animation[]

On the poster for the Mickey Mouse film The Jungle Cruise, H. Goff is mentioned as a producer.[3]

Skipper Canteen[]

There are two books by Goff in the Skipper Canteen's library titled Banjos and Baboons and Tramp steamers in Africa.[4]

Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar[]

In Sam's bar is a mounted banjo reading, "Banjo lessons contact H. Goff; dock 54".[5]

  • There are several other allusions to Harper Goff of unclear relation to Professor Goff.
    • In the Skipper Canteen, a JNC employee named, "Skipper Harper" is referenced as a cartographer in the company headquarters. It is unknown if he is connected to Professor Goff.
    • Another Goff of unknown relation is Reverend Goff who is mentioned as an agent of the Jungle Mission by Nigel Greenwater.
    • There is a company called, "Goff's brand" referenced in Walt Disney World's Jungle Cruise.
    • There is a member of the Adventurers Club named Allston Goff.
  • Fictionalized Harper Goffs are also referenced in the Haunted Mansion and Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid. This includes an inventor named R.H. Goff and a cartographer named H. Goff.
