Penny the Elephant is a statue located over Tropical Imports along the queue of Disneyland's Jungle Cruise.

Description[]

"Penny the Elephant" is the nickname attributed to a jade Indian elephant sculpture with ornate markings which could be used as a piggy-bank. The elephant may have some supernatural properties as it has been known to glow supernaturally with red eyes, and may be affiliated with a deceased/undead elephant spirit.[1]

History[]

Background[]

The elephant sculpture's origins are unknown. The elephant may have been connected to a domesticated elephant named Penny who died (likely related to a mouse related incident) and was buried in a crypt in the pet cemetery outside of the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans. The sculpture appeared to have once been located in the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor of Main Street, U.S.A. in Marceline, Missouri around the turn-of-the-century. In the late 1930s, the sculpture was seen in a crate, being shipped by the Jungle Navigation Company and stored atop the shop Tropical Imports.

Development history[]

This sculpture was once located in the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor of Disneyland Paris' Main Street, U.S.A.. In 2012, the sculpture was removed from Disneyland Paris' Main Street. In 2016, the sculpture was moved over Tropical Imports in Disneyland[2]
