The Pankot Palace is a location from the film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984).

Description[]

The Pankot Palace was a palace in Pankot, India located atop the "wounded" or "bleeding" mountain. The palace was surrounded by crocodile-infested waters and hid a series of caverns, booby-traps, secret passageways and mines. The palace was used as the capital building for Pankot, India under its subjugation by the British Empire.

  • Temple of Doom: This was a subterranean temple for the goddess Kali-Ma located underneath the palace which was used by the Thuggee Cult.

Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye[]

Indiana Jones is often identified as having located the Temple of the Forbidden Eye directly after his adventures in the Pankot Palace. It is implied that the agents of British Colonial Affairs who assist the Lost Delta Archaeological Expedition might be connected to the British aristocrats who Jones met with in the palace.

In Indiana Jones Summer of Hidden Mysteries, the headdress of the palace's chief religious leader Mola Ram was accidentally left by Indy in the possession of the Umbala tribe near the African veldt.

A travel poster for Pankot province, repurposed from Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar, shows the Temple of Doom and has the lines, "You'll leave your heart in beautiful Pankot".[1]

Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar[]

Mola Ram is indirectly referenced several time in this bar run by Jones' aviator Jock Lindsey. Ram's kryta depicting Indy, Willie and Short Round are on one of the shelves.[2] A map of the world has a piece of fabric depicting the Sankara Stones over India near the Temple of Doom. A travel poster for Pankot province also shows the Temple of Doom and has the lines, "You'll leave your heart in beautiful Pankot".[3] Ram was further referenced with the drink Kali Ma-rgueritas, named for his chant of, "Kali Ma".

  • Kali is notably featured in the attraction Kali River Rapids at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
  • Mola Ram's headdress appears within Dok-Ondar's shop in Black Spire Outpost, Batuu. It is also located nearby the Ark of the Covenant.
