History[]

Background[]

The Order of the Golden Piranha was a society active at an unknown point in time during the early half of the 20th century. The order had some connection to the colonial Jungle Navigation Company, presumably sharing members with them. By 1938, they were awarded the, "World’s Greatest Award!" award for a trophy they made representing membership in their ranks. Both of these trophies were kept in a cabinet in the Jungle Navigation Company's Amazon River Base in 1938.

Development history[]

The order was first referenced in the Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise following a 2021 refurbishment of the attraction. The order is likely inspired by the real-world secret-society, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, also known simply as the Order of the Golden Dawn. The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was a British secret-society who practiced occultism and spiritualism while containing many famous members such as Alistair Crowley, Bram Stoker and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The usage of piranha iconography was likely inspired by the man-eating piranhas in Disneyland's Jungle Cruise, a fictionalized depiction of the relatively harmless species influenced by Theodore Roosevelt's book, "Through the Brazilian Wilderness".

Two trophies referencing the order can be found in a trophy-cabinet in the Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise.
