The Orange Bird or Florida Orange Bird is an Adventureland character from the Sunshine Tree Terrace.

History[]

Biography[]

The Orange Bird is a seemingly mute bird native to the United States of America which resembles an orange fruit (or perhaps is genetically hybridized with said fruit). Originally hailing from the north, the Orange Bird would fly south in search of warmth and comfort where it made a home in the Sunshine Tree of Florida's orange groves in Lake Buena Vista. The Orange Bird's existence has seemingly been documented by humanity since at-least 1938.

Throughout the 1960s, the Orange Bird would serve as a mascot for the Florida citrus industry. This included the Sunshine Tree Terrace Brand of the Bay Lake Produce Company of WED Ent., Inc., and the Orange Bird Brand of the Sunshine Tree Citrus Groves. The bird in-particular was popular within the sleepy town of Disney Springs, Florida which had a booming citrus-industry.

Development history[]

The Orange Bird was created as a mascot for the Florida Citrus Commission, an organization which sponsored Walt Disney World. Animated shorts were created starring the Orange Bird with singer Anita Bryant as further promotions. Bryant's job with the commission was terminated in 1980 due to her activities campaigning against LGBTQ+ rights, resulting in public controversy and the Queer community boycotting Florida Citrus Commission products. The Orange Bird sponsorship was cut in 1987 and the Orange Bird would have less appearances as a result. The bird however saw a resurgence in popularity in 2014 at Tokyo Disneyland, leading to reintegration in American parks.
