Background[]
Old Smiley was a crocodile either in the Mekong river of Cambodia or Irrawaddy river of Burma. It inhabited a series of flooded ruins devoted to Khmer king Jayavarman VII. Here, Smiley had many children and by the 1930s gained a reputation as the, "Granddaddy" of all the temple's crocodiles.
Development history[]
Old Smiley is a crocodile who has been referenced in Disneyland's Jungle Cruise since at-least the 1960s.[2] Originally he was placed within the Cambodian shrine but in 2021, this scene was reimagined as the Irrawaddy ruins.

Jungle Cruise[]
Old Smiley appears in Disneyland's Jungle Cruise, resting on a slab in the temple's ruins. In the Amazon River Base is a plaque for, "Smiley's Chili Croc Cookoff".[3]
Skipper Canteen[]
In the library is a book titled, "Ancient Crocodiles" by Smiley.[4]
Trivia[]
- In the Magic Kingdom, the crocodile Mister Smiley has a similar name to Old Smiley albeit in Crocodile Country.
