The Mangani are a group of ape from Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan of the Apes.

Description[]

Book[]

In the books, the Mangani are a cryptid ape-species unknown to science. They are described as being something in-between chimpanzees and gorillas but considerably ape-like, resembling famous cryptids like Bigfoot or the Yeti.

Disney version[]

In this film, the Mangani are reimagined as a troop of gorillas in the Congo basin of Africa (and are never referred to as the Mangani). They live in a nest hidden in the jungle and are ruled by a patriarch; first Kerchak and later Tarzan.
