Maggie the skipper-appointed name for one of the chimpanzees in the Jungle Cruise.

History[]

Background[]

"Maggie" was a female chimpanzee who lived in the Primate Refuge during the late-1930s. After a private Jungle Cruise aboard the Kwango Kate wrecked in the nearby Hippo Pool, crates of live-butterflies belonging to entomologist Dr. Kon Chunosuke washed up along the riverside. Maggie and fellow female-chimp, "Annette", rummaged through his crates of live-butterflies where Maggie observed his butterflies with a magnifying-glass and ate-them.

The chimpanzees were added to the Jungle Cruise in a 2021 refurbishment to replace the headhunter tribe from the same area of the attraction. The boats which they play with are based on real-life Jungle Cruise boats which were decommissioned by Disney. The gag appears to be copied from Marc Davis' gorilla raiders which the 2021 refurbishment also copied for the controversial Trader Sam's Gift Shop!; with the scene also being more comedy focused than an intense and threatening point in the story.

Maggie holding a magnifying-glass is an homage to the skeleton captain of The Wicked Wench from Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean.[1] Maggie's skipper appointed name is a reference to her magnifying-glass.
