Louis Daniel Armstrong (1901-1971) also known by the nicknames of "Satchmo", "Satch", and "Pops" is a historic trumpeter and singer who is a major figure in music history, having been active in five eras of jazz music. In his lifetime, Armstrong was initially victim to being stereotyped and tokenized for his race though he did gain access to some higher society circles which would have been inaccessible for black people at the time. Armstrong is also historic for having been an active advocate for desegregation in the late 1950s.
