The Lost Safari porter refers to a character from the Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise.
History[]
Biography[]
This man was a colonial safari-goer in the early half of the 20th century. It is likely that he was a porter for safaris and resident of either Egypt or Sudan in North Africa. Between 1911 and 1936, he was part of a safari-expedition passing through the African Veldt along the Nile river. The party came under attack by an angered rhinoceros which chased them up a tree in the veldt. The safari's further fate is unknown though it would become considered to be the longest missing but most spotted safari in history.
Development history[]
The Trapped Safari was designed by animator Marc Davis for a comedy oriented refurbishment of the Jungle Cruise in 1964. However, the gag was made featuring racist depictions of black people in fez's as porters. The Magic Kingdom had a less racist depiction of the scene with the man in the fez seemingly paralleling the guides. In 2021, the scene was changed to depict the lost passengers of the Kwango Kate with the fez man being replaced by Japanese entomologist Dr. Kon Chunosuke.
