Kungaloosh! is a term from Pleasure Island referring to a fictitious greeting used by the Adventurers Club, a liquor, and a dessert.
Description[]
Greeting[]
Kungaloosh is the official greeting of the Adventurers Club. It is used similarly to the Hawaiian, "Aloha" and means both, "Hello" and, "Goodbye". Exclaiming Kungaloosh came with a three-step process to represent the club salute: first placing the heel of your right hand above your navel and wiggling it like a swimming fish, followed by raising said hand to one's mouth and take a drink from an imaginary glass, and finally raising your hand above your head to declare "Kungaloosh!".
Drink[]
There are two variants of the liquor Kungaloosh!, known respectively as Old Kungaloosh and New Kungaloosh. Old Kungaloosh is a mixture of vodka, Malibu rum, melon liquor, pineapple juice and cranberry juice. New Kungaloosh is Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum, blackberry liquor, orange juice and Daily's Strawberry Daiquiri Mix.[2]
Food[]
The meal-item Kungaloosh! is a chocolate pastry, supposedly originating from or inspired by African cuisine.
History[]
Background[]
The Adventurers Club is a club of eccentric globetrotters. They splintered off from the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, a centuries-old guild of aristocrats and western colonists. The Adventurers Club was built from disillusionment with the Society and unlike the S.E.A., it attempted to rehabilitate itself from its dark and amoral colonial origins.
It is unknown when they adopted Kungaloosh! but it would have happened by 1937 if not much earlier. There is also some indication that the expression might be of African origin.
