History[]

Background[]

Origins[]

The Falls estate was presumably constructed in the 19th century given its Victorian architecture. The estate served as the home of adventurers Dr. Albert Falls and Victoria Marie Falls, somewhere in the Wilds of Adventureland which Falls mapped the mystic rivers of around 1891. As Dr. Falls was a member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, he had a secret meeting-hall for the S.E.A. constructed behind the Falls library. S.E.A. members known to have attended the canteen included the likes of Lord Henry Mystic, his pet monkey Albert, Merriweather Adam Pleasure, Chef Tandaji, Sango Shio, Luana Teixeira and Captain Mary Oceaneer. The estate might have also hosted S.E.A. president Jason Chandler and S.E.A. affiliate Captain Brieux.

On the April 8th of 1911, Dr. Albert Falls founded the Jungle Navigation Company, even housing a mess hall for JNC skippers. At some point in time, the estate was transformed into the international headquarters for the JNC. In 1919, Dr. Albert's granddaughter Alberta was sent to the manor while her parents were on a lecture-circuit. After falling in-love with the jungle, Alberta's parents decided to let her be raised in the jungle with her grandparents. In 1928, Dr. Albert Falls disappeared and was presumed dead leading to Alberta becoming the new president of the Jungle Navigation Company.

Skipper Canteen[]

On October 1, 1931, Alberta began the Jungle Cruise tourism service. In 1938, the success from the Jungle Cruise lead to Alberta transforming the Falls estate into the, "Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen" restaurant. This involved her opening up the old S.E.A. meeting-place to serve as an additional dining-room. As the Skipper Canteen, the building hosted the likes of aviator Jock Lindsey, the professor known as The Dreamfinder, Adventurers Club president Pamelia Perkins, "witch-doctor" Col. Nedley "Shrunken Ned" Lostmore, and radio-host Nigel Greenwater.

A map made by Frank Wolff is annotated by Alberta Falls to state that the Skipper Canteen is east of the Amazon River Base.[2] Skipper Missy makes multiple allusions to the Skipper Canteen over the Global Broadcasting Service. One broadcast makes reference to them hosting the Offscreen Society's annual talent-show, while another states the canteen is looking for a new kitchen crew. In the Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise queue, the shift board mentions Skipper Selena transferring her Skipper Canteen shift to Skipper April with approval from Dr. Thompson, while another skipper named Prof. Robert is in the process of looking for someone to switch shifts with.[3]

Trivia[]

  • It has yet to be confirmed where the Skipper Canteen is geographically located. Theories and potential evidence do exist however:
    • It is likely not located in the Lost Delta of India given how the Mekong boathouse is inferred to be the only Jungle Navigation Company base in the region. Using the same logic, it being located in the Amazon Rainforest is less likely however not ruled out given how in real-life, the Amazon River Base and Skipper Canteen are located near one another in Adventureland. The map of the Rivers of Adventure also references the canteen as being east of the river base.
    • Most of the carvings of animals within the Skipper Canteen depict African animals such as a rhino, hyena, and African lions and which might give credence to the canteen being located in Africa. However, there is also a chandelier depicting the four masters of ceremony birds of the Enchanted Tiki Room and a pillar depicting monkeys from Cambodia.
    • A crate in the queue for the Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise gives Dr. Albert Falls' address as being "Dr. A. Falls near Bengal Bay" which if this address was meant to represent the Falls family mansion, could infer it is located in India/the region of Bengal.
  • In the S.E.A. meeting-hall are maps made by Captain Mary Oceaneer and Jason Chandler. Mary Oceaneer's map depicts the Nautilus being attacked by a giant-squid, the Kimballum Horriblus from World of Motion, and creatures which might depict the Leviathan from Atlantis: The Lost Empire and the Living Straghts from Sindbad Storybook Village. Chandler's map includes illustrations of the Hyperion Airship from Island at the Top of the World and Maleficent's dragon form from Sleeping Beauty.
  • Several of the books within the Skipper Canteen library are written by different Disney characters.
  • In the mess hall are ornaments from the Jingle Cruise.
