The Jungle Mission was a (presumed) Dutch Christian missionary organization active in certain jungles of Adventureland during the 1930s, implied to be in the vicinity of the African Veldt and Umbala territory.[1] It is very likely that the mission was based from Holland in the Netherlands as it was the place of origin for at-least one notable member of its group. The Jungle Mission also ran the, "Mission Veterinary Clinic" for animals.

History[]

Background[]

The Jungle Mission was a missionary group in the 1930s. They were a colonial force in the African regions of, "Adventureland".

Development history[]

The mission is a fictitious missionary group created for Disneyland's Jungle Cruise in a 1990s refurbishment. In colonialism, missionary work is part of the trinité coloniale (French: colonial trinity) referring to the interests of colonial missionaries, businesses and of the state. Namely, it is considered to be a pivotal extension of cultural-genocide in Indigenous tribes and more often than not inadvertently creates the illness, agricultural and economic issues which it justifies its existence by fighting.

Reverend Goff is a tribute to Imagineer Harper Goff, one of the Jungle Cruise's original imagineers. It is possible that the Jungle Mission could be a partial tribute to the film The African Queen (1951) where central character Rose Sayer was a member of the Methodist Church of Great Britain. The African Queen was a well-known influence for Goff in his development of the Jungle Cruise. Other famous jungle-based missionaries connected to the Jungle Cruise include physicians David Livingstone and Albert Schweitzer.
