"Hurry Hurry Hurry to the Tiki Room, Tikis make drums go boom, Magic is happening, All the birds and flowers sing, come and see this thing - The Enchanted Tiki Room"
—Juan

Juan the Barker Bird is a character from Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room.

History[]

Background[]

Juan was a parrot who along with his cousin José got speaking abilities and human intelligence from the Enchanted Tiki Room in Polynesia. While José would be one of the Tiki Room's four masters of ceremony, Juan would perch outside the Tiki Room to act as a barker for audiences.

Development history[]

Juan was added outside of Disneyland's Enchanted Tiki Room in 1963 as audio-animatronic shows were fairly new so adding a character outside gave a better idea of the Tiki Room's content. There were two different models of Juan used, one which was red and the other blue while both were voiced by Wally Boag who also voiced José.

Juan was removed largely due to his popularity, causing crowds and blockades to form around him near the gates to Adventureland. In 2000, rot around his perch would cause it to collapse.
