John Davison Rockefeller, Sr. (1839-1937) is a historic businessman, oil-magnate, Republican politician and billionaire known as the wealthiest individual in modern history. Rockefeller was the patriarch of the wealthy Rockefeller family and while he sometimes used his money for philanthropy, he acquired his mass fortune through various amoral means which sometimes directly violated American business-laws. Rockefeller was considerably feared in his lifetime by the public and political leaders alike due to his mass influence and the empire-like expansion of his business.

When talking about Mara's gifts of wealth in the Temple of the Forbidden Eye, the Eye on the Globe news-reporter uses the expression, "The paupers who became Rockefellers in these ruins".[1]
Skipper Canteen[]
In the library of the Skipper Canteen there is a book titled "Rockefeller, Hippo, Pet, Family" by Dr. Albert Falls. Falls is best known in the Jungle Cruise as the founder of the Jungle Navigation Company and the namesake of Schweitzer Falls. This book would have been written prior to Dr. Falls' mysterious disappearance in 1928.

The University of Chicago which Rockefeller established in 1892 is a recurring location in the Indiana Jones franchise. Indiana Jones studied at the university under Professor Abner Ravenwood before the two fell out when Indy slept with Abner's daughter Marion.

- Rockefeller's real-life enemy Theodore Roosevelt is also present in the Jungle Cruise mythos, having been a friend of Trader Sam, early mentor to Indiana Jones and original member of the Adventurers Club.
- John D. Rockefeller's grandson Nelson Rockefeller (1908- 1979) was the historic Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs (CIAA) for Walt Disney's 1941 goodwill tour, referenced in Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar.
