History[]

Background[]

The Harambe Wildlife Reserve was established at some point after 1961, when Harambe gained its freedom from European imperialism. The land used for the reserve was previously utilized by the colonial cattle company Smythe-Wallis British East Africa Livestock Ltd.. The reserve aimed to protect Africa's wildlife from hunters, colonizers and poachers. By the 1990s/2000s, the reserve was affiliated by the organizations Kilimanjaro Safaris and the Wilderness Explorers.

Development history[]

The Harambe Wildlife Reserve is the fictionalized name for a functional wildlife reserve run by Disney in Walt Disney World. In real-life, the reserve is 110 acres large with 34 species of African animal. These animals are kept enclosed from vehicles and more hostile species via hidden chains and grates which they are unable to pass through.

For the first four months of operation, the Harambe Wildlife Reserve had zebras. These zebras were removed from the attraction due to, "acclimation" issues and were replaced by addax. According to some reports, the zebras acted violently with one another leading up to their removal.
