Hanuman or Hanumān is a Hindu god who is a central character in the Hindu epic of Ramayana.

History[]

Due to Hindu influences in classical Khmer art, Hanuman became a popular character in folk art. For instance, he appears in one of the murals in the Angkor Wat, a great temple in Cambodia (the basis for the Cambodian ruins in Jungle Cruise), where he helps Lord Rama fight Ravana's army of demons.

Appearances[]

Jungle Cruise[]

Statues of Hanuman previously appeared in the Cambodian ruins scene of every Jungle Cruise. This was removed from Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Expeditions for a projection effect that brought the temple to life. In Disneyland, the statue was removed during a 2021 refurbishment and replaced with the brass-statue of a cobra for the Irrawaddy Ruins scene. The statue was also similarly replaced in the Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise.
