Ginger is a nile crocodile character from the Jungle Cruise.
History[]
Ginger is a Nile Crocodile who inhabited Crocodile Country along the Nile River of North Africa during the 1930s. According to skippers of the Jungle Navigation Company, Ginger is over 100 years in age. She inhabited crocodile country with another nile crocodile known as Mister Smiley.
Skippers of the Jungle Navigation Company had a fondness and familiarity for Ginger. They were known for giving her handouts and using her to terrorize guests of the JNC's, "Jungle Cruise" service.

Ginger appears in the Crocodile Country scene along with Mr. Smiley and some totems. In the Amazon River Base is a plaque for, "Smiley's Chili Croc Cookoff" where the victor was awarded to Skipper Kaz for their, "3 Bean Ginger Delight".[2]
Skipper Canteen[]
In the Skipper Canteen there is a meal-item called Ginger's "Croc" of Hot-and-Sour Soup described as containing, "Ginger (not the crocodile)".[3] The menus also contain illustrations of a crocodile, inferred to be Ginger.
Trader Sam's[]
During the holiday season, Ginger is the namesake for a beverage called, "Gin-Ger Snaps".
Trivia[]
- In Disneyland's Jungle Cruise, the name Ginger is sometimes erroneously used to refer to crocodiles near the Cambodian shrine. The only known named crocodile of this scene is one Old Smiley, a crocodile referred to as the, "Grandfather of them all".
- In the Skipper Canteen, the illustration of Ginger is modelled after the smoke crocodile from Alice in Wonderland (1951).
- Ginger and Smiley's positioning across the river resembles crocodiles which attacked the African Queen in the 1951 film The African Queen.
- Concept art by Marc Davis shows the crocodiles in the African Veldt scene.
