Dr. Rachel Flannery is a character from Indiana Jones Summer of Hidden Mysteries, connected to the backstory of Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye.

History[]

Background[]

Dr. Rachel Flannery was an archaeologist during the 1930s. Around 1935, she was to host the lecture, "Secrets of the Stone Tiger Revealed!" one site of the Temple of Sherdil in Bengal with Indiana Jones as guest-speaker. Flannery's goal was to locate the Golden Rod of Sherdil within the temple and use its power for herself.

However, Jones had gone missing within the temple to search for the Golden Rod of Sherdil, while leaving behind his journal. Flannery joined forces with attendees of her lecture to use the journal and locate Indiana Jones within the temple, with the missing part of the Golden Rod. When Jones escaped, he entrusted the Golden Rod of Sherdil with Flannery, only for her to betray him. The two fought and Jones used a snake to frighten her, causing her to fall backwards into the gates within a Sherdil statue, presumably killing her.

Appearances[]

Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Stone Tiger[]

Dr. Flannery was the main host of this attraction before becoming main-antagonist.

Trivia[]

  • Flannery's fear of snakes is a reference to Indiana Jones having the same phobia.
  • Dr. Rachel Flannery was a point of controversy when the Random Acts of Indy event occurred, due to Orange County Register taking issue with Indiana Jones fighting a woman. In the context of the attraction and its story, this criticism was more sexist in practice as she incited the fight and had her own villainous scheme meaning that Indy not fighting her would be to treat women as inherently more weak and fragile due to their gender. Regardless, the show was changed to have Indiana Jones simply dodge her attacks instead of punch her.
