Captain Rowan D. Falls is a character from the attraction Phantom Manor. He is associated with the attractions The Mark Twain Riverboat and The Jungle Cruise.
History[]
Captain Rowan D. Falls was a sailor during the early half of the 19th century. By around the 1850s, he was captain of The Mark Twain Riverboat, a stern-wheel steamboat which might have been run by the Western River Line company. This riverboat is best known for having travelled the Mississippi River and through locations such as New Orleans, Louisiana and Jackson's Island, Missouri.
Around the 1850s, Rowan spent time in the mining-town of Thunder Mesa, Arizona along the Rivers of the Far West. While here, Rowan courted the young town-belle Mélanie Ravenswood, the daughter of the wealthy town-founder Henry Ravenswood. Prior to 1860, Henry murdered Captain Falls due to the domineering control which he held over Mélanie's life. Henry achieved this by sending Captain Falls off the side of a waterfall in a rowboat.
Captain Rowan D. Falls was laid to rest in a crypt in Thunder Mesa along with three other suitors of Mélanie's that were murdered by Henry. In 1860, a massive earthquake hit the town and collapsed a portion of it into a canyon; killing all within. Rowan's tomb was part of the town which collapsed into what was deemed, "Phantom Canyon" and it is believed that he would inhabit the canyon as an undead spirit for decades to come.
Jungle Cruise connections[]
Jungle Cruise[]
Captain Rowan D. Falls shares his surname and familial occupation with Dr. Albert Falls, a major character from the Jungle Cruise. Dr. Albert Falls was a riverboat pilot and explorer during the 19th century (his earliest activities having been known in the 1880s) whose relationship with his granddaughter Alberta Falls indicates that captaining riverboats was something of a family business for the clan. Captain Rowan's name also fits into the theme of pun-names present within the Falls family.
Appearances[]
Phantom Manor[]
A portrait of Rowan appears in the secret chamber of Ravenswood Manor, showing him with Mélanie before changing and showing him going off the side of a waterfall. His crypt later appears within the structure connecting Phantom Canyon to the passages under Ravenswood Manor.
Thunder Mesa Daily Messenger[]
Rowan was mentioned within the Thunder Mesa Daily Messenger speaking on Ravenswood Manor's dark history.
