Gautama Buddha or more simply the Buddha (c. 5-4 BCE) is a historic and mythological figure of Buddhist myth. He is considered to be the founder of the Buddhist faith.

A removed feature from Disneyland's Cambodian ruin scene was a golden idol depicting Buddha. This was later replaced with a shrine of the Buddhist monkey god Hanuman. Also in Disneyland's Jungle Cruise, Nigel Greenwater plays the song, " When Buddha Smiles" by Benny Goodman on the Global Broadcasting Service.

The main-antagonist of this attraction is an ancient Indian tempter deity called Mara. In Buddhist myth, Mara was a male demon who attempted to tempt Buddha away from enlightenment.
Mystic Manor[]
In the final scene of this attraction is a statue of the Monkey King in the possession of Lord Henry Mystic. In Journey to the West (西遊記/西游记) from which this incarnation of the Monkey King originates, the Monkey King was bested by and imprisoned by the Buddha.
