Development history[]
The Bomokandi Bertha is a Jungle Cruise boat in the Magic Kingdom which was previously used in Tokyo as-well. In Walt Disney World, this boat is one of only two wheelchair accessible vehicles. On February 27, 2020, the boat sank outside of the Congo base camp scene. This submerged many guests up to their waists in water and resulted in an evacuation.
Also in 2020, Tokyo decommissioned their own Bomokandi Bertha. Speculations and jokes also became popular around this time that Disney intentionally sank the faux boat as a promotional stunt for the upcoming Jungle Cruise film. When the Jungle Cruise underwent a refurbishment in 2021, the sinking of the Bomokandi Bertha inspired the sinking of the story-relevant Kwango Kate, itself a decommissioned Jungle Cruise boat.
