Morgan "Bill" Evans (1910-2002) was an American horticulturalist who worked for the Walt Disney Company. He landscaped much of Disneyland and created the Jungle Cruise's contained jungle in both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom which Bill himself described as, “-the best darn jungle this side of Costa Rica”. Bill also created scientific latin-names for fictional plants such as with the Disneyoendron trees. Evans later worked on assisting with park projects such as Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.

Jungle Cruise tributes

• In Walt Disney World's Jungle Cruise, Albert Awol relays advice on the rainforest by Skipper Bill of the Congo Connie.
• In the Skipper Canteen is an office for, "Skipper Bill" in-charge of plant studies.
• In the library of the Skipper Canteen is a book titled, "Universus Arboribus" by B.M. Evans. This references Bill's habit for creating Latin names for plants at Disneyland.
• Outside the Jungle Cruise are planters made from crates which are labelled, "Evans Exotic Plant Exporters Ltd.".
• On the Jungle Cruise movie-poster at the Magic of Disney Animation was mention of the fictional film being directed by, "B. Evans".
• The character of Billamongawonga or, "Trader Bill" from Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar might be a tribute to Bill Evans.
• In Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar is a postcard from a, "Bill" who is stranded in the Congo without an anchor.
• In Disney Parks Presents: Jungle Cruise, the first jungle plant which Skipper John says the name of is, "Bill".

Trivia

• One of Bill Evans' techniques for creating a convincing jungle was planting orange trees upside down as to highlight their vines and exposed roots.
• Bill's Main Street window reads, " Evans Gardens, Exotic & Rare Species, Freeway Collections, Est. 1910, Morgan (Bill) Evans, Senior Partner".
