Big Top Courage Elixir is an item from the Jungle Cruise.
Description[]
Big Top Courage Elixir was a blue coloured liquid which when ingested supposedly granted enhanced courage to its user. It was however very likely that the formula was a placebo and/or snake-oil.
History[]
Background[]
The Big Top Courage Elixir was sold by the late 1930s.
Development history[]
Big Top Courage Elixir is likely a reference to the film Dumbo (1941) where the titular protagonist gained courage to perform in a circus by holding a crow's feather which he believed to be magic. The formula might further reference the Dumbo/Mickey Mouse themed, "Storybook Circus" area of the Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland.
Appearances[]
Jungle Cruise[]
A bottle of the elixir appears in the medicine cabinet of the Jungle Navigation Company's Amazon River Base. The medicine also appears in the cabinet at the lookout of Disneyland's boathouse.
Trivia[]
- Jungle Cruise imagineer Bob Mattey worked on Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
- If the formula is a placebo, it might be connected to snake-oil salesman Doctor Terminus who is also referenced in the cabinet.
