Big Red is an African elephant character from Kilimanjaro Safaris.

History[]

Background[]

Big Red was an African elephant which lived in the Harambe Wildlife Reserve in the East-African port of Harambe during the late 20th century. Big Red had a calf in the form of, "Little Red" and the two became somewhat famous amongst those who would watch animals in the reserve.

Around the 1990s-2000s, Big Red was killed by poachers for her tusks. Little Red was taken by these poachers for usage on the black-market. Following this, warden Wilson Matua teamed up a Kilimanjaro Safaris' jeep SIMBA-1 to save the baby elephant.

Development history[]

Big Red was part of Kilimanjaro Safaris' darker original narrative. Partially inspired by the death of Bambi's mother in Bambi (1942), Big Red's mutilated corpse was encountered by guests on their tour to teach them about the horrors of poaching. This storyline would be toned down over the years and redacted, leaving only scattered references to Big Red and Little Red in the queue.
