This attraction is on the chimpanzee. For the historic actress/singer, see Annette Funicello.
Annette is the skipper-appointed name for one of the chimpanzees in the Jungle Cruise.
History[]
Background[]
"Annette" was a female chimpanzee who lived in the Primate Refuge during the late-1930s. After a private Jungle Cruise aboard the Kwango Kate wrecked in the nearby Hippo Pool, crates of live-butterflies belonging to entomologist Dr. Kon Chunosuke washed up along the riverside. Annette and fellow female chimp, "Maggie" then rummaged through the crates to eat his boxed butterflies, while Annette played with the doctor's butterfly-net.
Development history[]
The chimpanzees were added to the Jungle Cruise in a 2021 refurbishment to replace the headhunter tribe from the same area of the attraction. The boats which they play with are based on real-life Jungle Cruise boats which were decommissioned by Disney. The gag appears to be copied from Marc Davis' gorilla raiders which the 2021 refurbishment also copied for the controversial Trader Sam's Gift Shop!; with the scene also being more comedy focused than an intense and threatening point in the story.
Appearances[]
Jungle Cruise[]
Annette appears in the Primate Refuge, popping out of a crate while holding Dr. Kon Chunosuke's butterfly-net.
Trivia[]
- Annette shares her first-name with historic actress/singer Annette Funicello who is often referenced in the Jungle Cruise franchise (often with net puns, like with the chimp).
