This article is about the real-world themed area of the Disney Parks. For the fictional domain, see Wilds of Adventureland.
Adventureland is one of the traditional themed, "Lands" of the Disney Parks. There are Adventurelands in Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom, Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland.
History[]
Backstory[]
Adventureland is an anachronistic region composed of a variety of locations across the Earth which are connected by the mystical Rivers of Adventure. By the 1930s, these many connected locations were accumulatively referred to as, "Adventureland". The source of this supernatural element is unknown in addition to how it exactly functions. Adventureland is sometimes referenced as being part of, "The Magic Kingdom", itself apparently a magical domain composed of different points in time and space but its nature is unknown.
Development history[]
Adventureland was originally conceived as the, "True-Life Adventureland", inspired by the popular True-Life Adventures film-series made by Disney. The, "Land" was made to depict a romanticized jungle region and as a result features glamorization of colonialism, racist stereotyping, and exoticism. Adventureland was always planned hand-in-hand with the attraction which would become the Jungle Cruise. Walt Disney's plaque for Adventureland reads, "Here is adventure. Here is romance. Here is mystery. Tropical rivers- silently flowing into the unknown. The unbelievable splendor of exotic flowers...the eerie sound of the jungle...with eyes that are always watching. This is Adventureland. -Walt Disney"[1]
